The Grand Rapids Press ran an article recently about Laura and Rachel Jacobs, twin sisters from Grand Rapids, who are putting themselves through Calvin College. The article explains that many of Michigan’s students in the same situation are going to have to work even harder to make ends meet come fall. The reason is, even as institutions of higher learning across the state are forced to raise their tuition, room and board, the Governor is trying to cut $65 million in need based scholarships for students attending private colleges, while still increasing spending by $1.2 billion over last years budget. Strange priorities.
