Gretchen Whitmer Must Release All Emails Related to Her Secret Selection as Ingham County Prosecutor
Prosecutor who said she wants to “earn back the trust of the people” must voluntarily expose selection process to the public
LANSING, Mich., June 20 – Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel on Monday called on ex-state Senator Gretchen Whitmer to voluntarily release all e-mails and other documents related to her secret selection as the next Ingham County Prosecutor. Whitmer takes office July 2 but was sworn-in in a ceremony today.
Whitmer told the Lansing State Journal when she applied for the position that, “It strikes me that one of the most important things is to earn back the trust of the people of Ingham County.”
“If Whitmer wants to assure the public that the prosecutor’s office will be run transparently and ethically following the Dunnings scandal, she must start by voluntarily releasing all emails related to her own secret selection as prosecutor,” said McDaniel.
McDaniel called on Whitmer to voluntarily release all her emails and other documents, and also for Whitmer to publically ask the government panel who selected her to release all of their communications regarding her secret selection. As the new prosecutor, McDaniel said, Whitmer has standing to make the release of all documents take place so the public knows the truth.
Whitmer confirmed to the Lansing State Journal on April 22 that she applied to be prosecutor. She was secretly selected over several other candidates.
Whitmer has never released her emails or other records regarding the interview and selection process.
