Open Borders Inslee to Campaign in Michigan LANSING, Mich., June 4, 2019 –The following is a statement from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding Governor Jay Inslee’s Presidential campaign stop in Michigan today. "As a former federal immigration agent, I am deeply disturbed that Governor Inslee refuses to enforce our nation’s immigration laws. Last month, Inslee signed a bill which makes Washington a sanctuary state and is nothing more than a desperate attempt to pander to the radical left. Their goal of open borders puts American jobs at risk and that’s why President Trump is fighting to solve the crisis at our southern border once and for all.” More >

ICYMI: Slotkin's Discrepancies In case you missed it, the Washington Free Beacon reported today that there is a discrepancy in resumes Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin used, which show she held vastly different positions early in her career. One resume shows she worked for "a professional body representing the Palestinian minority in Israel in all matters related to education." While the other shows her working as "a grant writer for Isha L'Isha (Women to Women), which describes itself as "the oldest grassroots feminist organization in Israel and one of the leading voices of women's rights in the country." Why aren’t these resumes the same and what is Elissa Slotkin hiding? Discrepancy In Slotkin’s Resumes On Israeli-Palestinian Work Entries show work for both Palestinian and Israeli groups during Second Intifada Two resumes from Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D., Mich.) offer different accounts of an early point in her career, raising questions about which version is most accurate and if there are political reasons why the two CVs do not match exactly. The discrepancy is also drawing some criticism from pro-Israel quarters. When the Michigan Democrat was being considered for assistant secretary of state in 2012, a resume she submitted as part of her application claimed that circa 2000-2001 she had served as a grant writer for the Follow-Up Committee on Arab Education (FUCAE). That group's website says it "is a professional body representing the Palestinian minority in Israel in all matters related to education." However, her current work history on her LinkedIn profile for the same time... More >

MRP Statement on Redistricting Stay LANSING, Mich., May 24, 2019 – The following is a statement from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding the US Supreme Court’s decision to issue a stay in the Michigan Redistricting Lawsuit. “The Michigan redistricting lawsuit is simply a desperate attempt by partisan Democrats to redraw our state’s legislative lines two years early. This will allow our legislature to continue focusing on getting things done for the people of Michigan, instead of unnecessary partisan battles over political maps.” More >

Dana’s Dangerous Partisan Precedent

Dana’s Dangerous Partisan Precedent LANSING, Mich., May 22, 2019 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s ruling which calls into question the constitutionality of Public Act 608 of 2018. The act set forth rules for the gathering of State petitions. Previously, Nessel has used the same process to strike down other laws enacted by Republicans. “Yet again, Dana Nessel has decided to throw out a law she doesn’t support on purely partisan grounds, and to help Democrats gain an advantage under our State’s election laws. The job of the Michigan Attorney General is to enforce Michigan’s laws, not create them. Dana Nessel has established a dangerous precedent which undermines the elected representatives of our state, and gives the Attorney General’s office almost unlimited power. This is not what government for the people looks like, and Michigan voters should be disgusted.” More >

The poll also showed that 85% of those surveyed give President Trump full or partial credit for the U.S. economies’ improved performance. “The CBS News headline speaks for itself. Americans are excited about our booming economy, and know that they have President Trump to thank. The President promised Michiganders he would fight to put them back to work and his effort have resulted in more jobs, higher pay and billions in new investment within our state. Michiganders remember the economic chaos of the Obama/Biden years and we are not going back." More >

MRP calls on Democrats to Censure Tlaib LANSING, Mich., May 12, 2019 – The following is a statement from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s recent appearance on the Yahoo News podcast "Skullduggery" in which the congresswoman stated, “There’s always kind of a calming feeling, I tell folks, when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people's passports, and, just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time.” “Anti-Semitism and hate have no place in civilized discourse. Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats have failed our nation by repeatedly ignoring despicable comments from members of their caucus. This dereliction of duty is unacceptable. It’s time to hold Rashida Tlaib accountable by censuring the Congresswoman for her recent comments. Anything less is a sign that anti-Semitism is acceptable within today’s Democrat Party.” More >

In Case You Missed it: No-fault relief in sight. Will Whitmer grab it? In case you missed it, Nolan Finley detailed in the Detroit News how Michigan Republicans have passed an auto Insurance relief package that will slash Michiganders highest in the nation auto insurance bills. However, as Finley points out, Whitmer wants to tie those savings to her scheme to raise the states gas tax by 45-Cents. As Republicans have pointed out trading the highest auto insurance in the nation for the highest gas tax in the nation is not an option. House and Senate Republicans are standing strong but they need your help. Call Governor Whitmer (517-335-7858 ) and tell her to stop playing politics with Auto Insurance Relief. No-fault relief in sight. Will Whitmer grab it? By Nolan Finley, The Detroit News For Michigan motorists hopeful the fast-moving legislation to reform the state's no-fault law will soon give them relief from the nation's most expensive auto insurance premiums, here's a reality check: No amount of capitulation by Republicans to Democratic concerns is likely to win the signature of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The governor first pledged to veto the reform passed by the Senate last week unless it provided a mandate on insurance companies to lower premiums, removed non-driving considerations such as credit scores and ZIP codes from the rate-setting calculation, and included an option for consumers to continue purchasing policies with unlimited personal injury protection. So when the bill got to the House, Republicans added the premium reduction mandate, banned non-driving risk factors and... More >

MRP Statement on Republican Auto Insurance Reform Victories LANSING, Mich., May 9, 2019– The following is a statement from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding the passage of Auto Insurance reform bills by both the Michigan State Senate and State House. The bills, which received overwhelming Republican support, are expected to result in massive savings for Michigan residents once reconciled. Currently, Michiganders pay the highest auto insurance rates in the nation. “Today is a huge victory for the people of Michigan. After years of hard work, Republicans in the State legislature have found a solution which will deliver badly needed financial relief to residents across Michigan and drastically slash our highest in the nation auto insurance rates. Governor Whitmer seems determined to keep costs high for drivers whether it's with the highest auto insurance rates in the nation or the highest gas tax in the nation. It's time Governor Whitmer work with the Michigan legislature to make sensible reforms to fix our roads and our auto insurance system." More >
