LANSING, Mich., February 1, 2021 – In case you missed it, Charlie LeDuff reported in Deadline Detroit on Thursday that American Coney Island and Lafayette Coney Island in Detroit, were both visited by state officials after being featured in a feel-good video hosted by Barstool Sports Founder David Portnoy. Lafayette was fined $500 by the state. LANSING, Mich., January 27, 2021 – Today, Governor Whitmer will give her State of the State Address, but over the last year, Michiganders have lived in a state of disarray, due to Whitmer’s failed COVID-19 response. It’s important to address the scope of these failures and the millions of lives affected by them. The New York Times reported that as early as February, Governor Whitmer knew about the COVID-19 virus, but not only did she ignore the warnings, she continued campaigning with then-candidate Joe Biden across the State of Michigan through March. Whitmer even waited to disclose COVID cases in Michigan until polls closed the night of the Michigan Democrat Presidential Primary. Throughout the spring and summer, Whitmer wasted valuable time auditioning to be Joe Biden’s running mate. Weeks later, Governor Whitmer would sign her first shutdown order, which began nearly a year of destruction to Michigan’s economy and the livelihoods of thousands. Despite her initial shutdown and the political grandstanding that came with it, Governor Whitmer forgot to request FEMA Aid, which would have helped accelerate the delivery of vital PPE and other COVID supplies. LANSING, Mich., January 26, 2021 – This morning, The Detroit Free Press highlighted that a report by Auditor General Doug Ringler revealed that the state of Michigan had no oversight or controls when purchasing vital supplies of PPE, and other items to battle the COVID-19 virus. The report says that Governor Whitmer’s administration “allowed state employees to share state credit cards and wired tens of millions of dollars to suppliers before the requested goods were received.” Furthermore, they “did not have comprehensive emergency procurement policies and procedures in place prior to the COVID-19 emergency, resulting in increased risks for fraud, waste, and loss of funds.”. In addition, a report released by MIRS today revealed that the state was scammed out of nearly $25,000 when attempting to purchase PPE equipment. “Governor Whitmer has time and again refused calls for transparency in her administration and this new report showing the disaster that is her COVID-19 response explains why.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox.
