Peters False Attacks Continue During Pandemic

Today, Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox called on Senator Gary Peters to demand that his allies halt the airing of several false ads that have been running on Michigan airwaves during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In the ads, Michigan residents with deep ties to the Michigan Democrat Party, Gary Peters, and other progressive special interest groups make several blatantly false climes about John James and his stances on healthcare. Claims that are heightened in the publics' mind due to Michiganders continuing concerns about the ongoing pandemic. The five Democrat activists in the ad, all with ties to Democrat causes and Gary Peters, are Lee Anzicek, Terry Gannon, Carole Gannon, and Wally Niezguski. These individuals have all given to Democrat and liberal causes, according to FEC records. Sheron Williams, who is also in the ad, participated in a Gary Peters campaign event and is pictured with Peters at that event. “While Michiganders continue to suffer the health and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gary Peters and his allies continue to attack combat veteran John James with a false healthcare narrative built on lies,” said Cox. “If Gary Peters had any integrity, he would call for the withdrawal of those false ads immediately and stop trying to politicize this pandemic.” This is not the first time Peters has been called into question about trying to politicize the COVID-19 pandemic. On Sunday, the Michigan Republican Party pointed to a Peters campaign website which was touted as a resource on COVID-19, but... More >

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT): Stevens Inappropriately Used Government Resources in Her Official Capacity to Solicit Campaign Donations

Today, Fox News reported that The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) filed an official complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) against Representative Haley Stevens for using her official capacity as a member of Congress to fundraise for her reelection campaign. Stevens, who sent a fundraising email to her supporters on Saturday, used an official photo from her floor speech the previous day on the House Floor entitled “Hello from The Capitol”. In the floor speech from Friday, she was ruled “out of order” by the House Chair, a member of her own party, when she started shouting over her peers to finish her speech. “Representative Stevens was out of order when she was shouting on the House floor on Friday, and she was out of line when she sent this email trying to raise money for her political campaign.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox Statement on Whitmer Claim

The following is a statement from Michigan Republican Party Chairman, Laura Cox, on Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s appearance on WWJ radio in which she claimed that federal government vendors involved in the COVID-19 relief effort "are now being told not to send stuff here to Michigan”. However, when pressed later in the day by reporters to substantiate these claims, the governor’s office failed to provide any evidence of federal interference in the Michigan relief effort. “Governor Whitmer made an extraordinary claim today which requires extraordinary evidence. If it is found that this claim is untrue and was simply a partisan attack to undermine the administration, I expect for the people of Michigan to hold Gretchen Whitmer accountable for trying to sow fear in a time of national crisis.” More >

Cox Calls for Planned Parenthood Restrictions

Friday, Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox called on Governor Gretchen Whitmer to expand Executive Order 2020-17 to place Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics under the same regulations as other outpatient facilities specializing in non-emergency medical procedures. Such a move would help preserve valuable medical supplies during the COVID-19crisis, and similar restrictions have been implemented in Ohio, Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Currently, Executive Order 2020-17 states that hospitals, freestanding surgical outpatient facilities, dental facilities, and all state-operated outpatient facilities must implement a plan to temporarily postpone all non-essential procedures until the termination of the COVID-19 state of emergency. “Due to the COVID-19 crisis, there is an incredible strain being placed on Michigan’s healthcare system. It makes sense that all nonessential medical procedures be postponed.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “With that in mind, I am calling on Governor Whitmer to expand Executive Order 2020-17 to include Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. This move will save valuable medical supplies in the fight against COVID-19 and reduce the risk of hospitalization due to complications from the abortion procedure. The governor must act to put the health and safety of the people of Michigan ahead of her political position on this issue.” More >
