MIGOP Statement on Hillary Clinton’s Endorsement of Joe Biden

The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox regarding Hillary Clinton’s endorsement of Joe Biden. “Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton are truly one in the same. The Democrats’ only talent is nominating career politicians that are way past their prime and have nothing to show for their decades in Washington. In 2016, Hillary neglected Michigan to campaign with the coastal elites and was unable to clinch our electoral votes as a result. The Democrats’ 2020 Presidential campaign strategy here in Michigan is shaping up to be more of the same. Michiganders want no part of the same old, overplayed Democrat party establishment and career politicians with their out-of-touch liberal wish list. Over these next 7 months, I look forward to ensuring another resounding Trump victory in Michigan.” More >

Another Day, Another Whitmer VP Audition

This morning, Governor Gretchen Whitmer joined Politico Playbook Live for yet another audition in her bid to become Joe Biden’s pick for Vice President – going as far to tell her national audience that they were “cut from the same cloth”. Since the COVID-19 outbreak began in Michigan, the governor has made over 60 national appearances. This follows Whitmer’s weekend appearance on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”, in which she publicly disputed the medical advice of one of Michigan’s leading medical professionals, Dr. Mohammed Arsiwala. This advice helped save the life of Detroit State Representative Karen Whitsett as she battled with coronavirus. In recent days, Whitmer has come under fire for various missteps – including hiring Pete Buttigieg’s former press secretary, awarding a no-bid contract to a democrat data firm and snubbing State Representative Karen Whitsett because she said nice things about the president. “It is no surprise that Governor Whitmer continues to take the national stage, vying to become Joe Biden’s Vice Presidential pick,” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “Whitmer continues to try and cover up the messes she’s made by casting herself in a favorable light in the national media. As many times as the governor says, ‘I’m not focused on politics right now’ her national appearances say otherwise. Michigan deserves a full-time governor right now – not someone who’s main focus is presidential politics.” More >

Cox: Whitmer Owes Dr. Arsiwala an Apology

Whitmer must use all tools in the toolbox to stop COVID-19 oday, on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”, Governor Gretchen Whitmer publicly disputed the medical advice Dr. Mohammed Arsiwala offered to save the life of Detroit State Representative Karen Whitsett as she battled the coronavirus. Arsiwala used hydroxychloroquine, a medicine which Governor Whitmer has been criticized for temporarily banning. In addition to serving as a medical professional, Dr. Arsiwala is the President of the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS). MSMS is the foremost advocacy organization which “supports physicians to improve patient care and health care outcomes, reduce burnout, and administrative burdens,” More on Dr. Arsiwala’s biography can be found here. Whitmer stated, “I know this State Rep credits hydroxychloroquine for her success with COVID-19 but I also know the medical professionals are saying that’s not the case we should not make that assumption.” "Gretchen Whitmer would rather use medical advice to fit her political narrative, than trust a proven treatment being pioneered by one of Michigan’s foremost medical professionals,” said Laura Cox, Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party. Cox continued, “Whitmer needs to put politics aside and use every tool in the tool box to save lives, including the tools Dr. Arsiwala utilized to save Karen Whitsett’s life. Whitmer owes Dr. Arsiwala an apology, and she needs to knock off the politics and start acting in the best interests of Michiganders.” More >

Cox Statement on COVID Contract Late Night Name Release

The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox regarding the Whitmer administration's late night release of the names of four employees it says were responsible for hiring two partisan Democrat firms to handle vital COVID-19 contact tracing calls. The disclosure comes after calls from the Michigan Republican Party and Republicans in the State Legislators to disclose all emails regarding the hiring of EveryAction VAN and Great Lakes Community Engagement. Currently, the governor is refusing to fulfill that request. “Governor Whitmer's release of these names in the middle of the night shows just how desperate she is to cover this up. The governor said that the decision to hire these deeply partisan firms was not political, however, we now know that members of the selection process worked in the Obama Biden White House. It’s now clearer than ever that Michiganders will not know the truth until Whitmer releases all emails sent regarding these contracts.” More >

Cox Statement on Whitmer’s Petty Politics

The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox regarding reports that Governor Whitmer was seeking to engage in petty politics with State Representative Karen Whitsett. “Time and time again, Governor Whitmer continues to prove she is not a real leader. At a time when our state needs to come together, Whitmer is taking the time to try and shame Rep. Whitsett for crediting the president with raising awareness about hydroxychloroquine, instead of leading us through this crisis. It time for the governor to end her Vice Presidential audition and put people above politics.” More >

Cox Statement on Whitmer Order

The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox regarding today’s executive order from Governor Whitmer: “After weeks of hard work by our Republican legislators Whitmer is finally listening to the people of this state, and gradually re-opening our economy. Many have faced the negative economic effects of this outbreak and have had to bear the brunt of this shutdown. We can both safely, and strategically re-open Michigan and I look forward to more action in the coming days.” More >

PPP Funding Passes After Being Held Up by Peters, Democrats for Two Weeks

Yesterday, additional funding was finally appropriated two weeks after Gary Peters and Democrats blocked aid for the Paycheck Protection Program. Last Thursday, the program ran dry, and from then on was unable to support any further small businesses and their employees. Republicans attempted to preemptively replenish the fund but were shot down by Senate Democrats. “This aid is much-needed and long overdue because Gary Peters and Democrats wanted to run out the clock with their political games – something that has been detrimental to many Michigan small businesses.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “Moving forward, the hardworking people of our state shouldn’t suffer because our junior senator wants to be in lock step with Chuck Schumer’s liberal agenda.” More >

Peters is a Rubber Stamp for Schumer’s Toxic Agenda

Tonight, Gary Peters will hold an online fundraiser with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in yet another demonstration that Peters is nothing more than a rubber stamp for Schumer’s extreme liberal agenda. Over the past week, small businesses across Michigan and their employees have been suffering after Peters and Senate Democrats held up additional aid for the Paycheck Protection Program. “Gary Peters supports Chuck Schumer’s extreme liberal agenda 95% of the time, and now Schumer is repaying the favor tonight with a high dollar online fundraiser.” said Laura Cox Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party. Cox continued, “When the people of our state needed aid the most, Peters sided with Schumer over Michigan. And if re-elected in November, it would be 6 more years of the same rubber stamp votes.” More >

Whitmer Passes Over FDA Compliant Swabs

Yesterday, The Detroit News reported that EnVisionTECH in Dearborn, Michigan was producing Nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs that were FDA approved to help with COVID-19 testing. Ali Siblani, the owner of the 3D printing company said he has been scaling to produce over a million swabs a day and currently shipping out 200,000 a day to various universities and hospitals. Siblani says he contacted the governor’s office to equip the state with more swabs. He has yet to hear back. “Yet again, Michigan is suffering due to the consequences of Governor Whitmer’s poor management in a time of crisis.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “While Whitmer pushes the narrative that Michigan isn’t getting enough testing supplies from the federal government, she and her administration are willing to pass over a Michigan based solution. It’s shameful and a horrible disservice to the people of our state.” More >

Cox Calls for Release of State Emails

Calls Contract Tracing Important, Doesn’t Know if it’s Happening Today, during her daily press conference, Governor Whitmer dodged a question about who hired two Democrat political firms to do important COVID-19 contact tracing calls. Whitmer’s shocking dodge, along with the revelation that the governor is unsure as to whether any of these vital calls have taken place 43 days into Michigan’s COVID-19 crisis, led Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox to call for the release of all state emails regarding the contact trace program. “Governor Whitmer cannot simply plead ignorance when a program of such vital importance to the health of Michigan citizens has been botched so badly,” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “The people of Michigan have a right to know how the governor and her staff are handling this crisis. If the governor won’t answer these questions for us, maybe her administration's emails will. Today, I am calling for the Whitmer administration to release all internal emails regarding the COVID-19 contact tracing program so that the people of Michigan can learn the truth.” More >
