One failed Michigan Governor Bails Out Another

As thousands of Michiganders continue to wait for Governor Gretchen Whitmer to fix the state's broken unemployment system, Whitmer continues to raise money for her political war chest. Today, Whitmer even enlisted the help of former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm who oversaw one of the worst economic periods in state history with her two terms being labeled “Michigan’s Lost Decade”. In a Tuesday fundraising email, Granholm asks for donors to help raise $10,000 “so the Governor’s team can ramp up legal and communications strategies”. This is despite the fact that Whitmer will not appear on an election ballot for almost two years, and such costs that are related to her official duties are covered by the state. Whitmer has been criticized for raising campaign funds throughout the COVID-19 crisis while hiring political communications specialist Chris Meagher onto the state payroll. “Jennifer Granholm’s endorsement of Gretchen Whitmer’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis shows that failed Governors stick together.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “Not only has Gretchen Whitmer bungled Michigan’s response to COVID-19 and overstepped her authority, but she continues to campaign off this crisis despite the fact that she isn’t on the ballot in 2020. However, her constant fundraising and dozens of national media appearances are further proof she is trying to change that by securing the 2020 Democrat Vice Presidential nomination.” A copy of Granholm’s email can be found below. Another Day, Another Peters Duck

Yesterday, Fox News reported that Senator Gary Peters yet again “did not respond to a request for comment”, regarding Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegations against Joe Biden. This is now the third publication that Peters has avoided responding to on this question in recent weeks. In 2018, during Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, Gary Peters supported Christine Blasey Ford coming forward. Now, Peters remains silent on Reade’s allegations against Biden – whom Peters endorsed for president last month. “Michiganders should not be surprised Gary Peters would rather hide from the press than risk disappointing his buddy Joe Biden.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “After all, Gary Peters hides from all issues that could hurt his political party or jeopardize his standing with Democrats. The honest and hardworking people of our state deserve to know if Gary Peters puts sexual assault survivors or his political party first.” More >

When it Comes to Working with Republicans, Whitmer Won’t

On Sunday, Speaker Lee Chatfield joined Devin Scillian on WDIV’s Flashpoint to discuss the State Legislature’s lawsuit against Governor Whitmer’s unilateral executive overreach. The legislature has sought to work with Governor Whitmer since the day coronavirus first came to Michigan, just as they have done on previous occasions with the state budget. The relationship between legislative leadership and Whitmer soured when the governor released emails of confidential negotiations between her administration and House and Senate staff, in an attempt to score political points. “The laws still need to be followed, and our Constitution still needs to be followed, even while we are in a pandemic,” the Speaker said. The Governor has yet to put forward a detailed plan on reopening Michigan, rather than her day-by-day game plan based on “data” and “science.” “Governor Whitmer will not work with the legislature, she will not provide a comprehensive plan to re-opening our state, and she will not provide any light at the end of the tunnel for the people of Michigan.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “It’s time for the governor to adopt federal CISA guidelines and start to strategically re-open our state, and work with our legislature to get Michigan back on track.” More >

It’s Been 48 Days Since Tara Reade Came Forward, And Peters Continues to Hide

It’s been 48 days since Tara Reade came forward with sexual assault allegations and 405 days since reports started to surface about Joe Biden’s inappropriate touching of women, and Michigan’s Junior Senator Gary Peters has been silent. Last month, Peters endorsed Biden for the Democrat presidential nomination. In 2018, during Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, Gary Peters supported Christine Blasey Ford coming forward. This time, however, Peters has sought to avoid stating whether Tara Reade should be able to have her voice heard on two separate occasions. “Gary Peters is unwilling to address the tough issues, and therefore is a failure as a leader for Michigan.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “Peters is more worried about playing politics and covering for his buddy Joe Biden, than he is about getting to the truth. The fact of the matter is that it will always be party over country for Gary Peters.” More >

Peters Silence on Biden Allegations Deafening

This week, as evidence mounted corroborating Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegations, Senator Gary Peters continued to duck questions about his support for Joe Biden. Peters endorsed Biden last month despite public allegations by Reade that Biden sexually assaulted and harassed her, while she was an employee in his Senate office in 1993. “Multiple individuals, legal documents, and archival news footage all corroborate Tara Reade’s allegations, yet Gary Peters refuses to speak out,” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “These allegations and their apparent cover-up taint, not only Joe Biden, but also the United States Senate and the time has come for Gary Peters to tell our state where he stands.” More >

Would Prosecutor Whitmer have Investigated Biden?

Late last night, the San Luis Obispo Tribune published a story which provides legal evidence corroborating Tara Reade’s allegation against presumptive Democrat presidential nominee, Joe Biden. This additional evidence from Reade’s 1996 divorce corroborates that she left Biden’s Senate office due to Biden’s behavior, and that a settlement was reached with Biden’s then Chief of Staff. Currently, Biden’s National Campaign Chairman Gretchen Whitmer has been supportive of Biden during these accusations, even defending him by saying Reade's allegation isn't “consistent with the Joe Biden I know”. However, this new evidence begs the question, “When serving as Ingham County Prosecutor, would Whitmer have investigated Joe Biden for sexual assault due to the litany of evidence corroborating Reade’s allegations?” “This new evidence further corroborating Tara Reade’s allegations is incredibly troubling,” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “As a former law enforcement officer, I have no doubt that I would do whatever I could to get to the bottom of such a horrendous cover-up. As a former Prosecutor, can Gretchen Whitmer say the same, or will she continue to stay silent in the hope of being on the Biden ticket?” More >

Thanks to GOP Leadership, Soo Lock Construction Begins

Yesterday, thanks to the efforts of Michigan Republican Congressional delegation, the long-awaited construction on the Soo Locks began. The project which will be completed by November of 2021 consists of upstream channel deepening, rehabilitation of the upstream approach walls, and construction of a new poe-sized lock chamber. The project was spearheaded by Michigan’s GOP Congressional Delegation requesting that President Trump support additional funding for the project in the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. In a 2018 meeting with the president, Representatives Bergman, Moolenaar and Mitchell all pushed for additional funding. Then, later that night at a rally, President Trump announced his administration would provide the funding. In his FY21’ budget, the president included $123.2 million for construction of a new Lock, in addition to the Army Corps of Engineers’ updated FY20 Work Plan that includes an additional $50 million for the Soo Locks project. “More promises made, promises kept from President Trump and his administration to the people of Michigan,” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “Thank you to our GOP Delegation who worked tirelessly with the president to secure this project for Michigan. They promised to protect and preserve one of Michigan’s most vital infrastructures, and they got it done!” More >
