MIGOP Statement on President Trump’s Michigan Visit

The Michigan Republican Party (MIGOP) released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox regarding President Trump’s Thursday visit to Ypsilanti, Michigan. MIGOP Co-Chair, Terry Bowman who is a 23-year hourly UAW-Ford worker, has spent the last six weeks back at his Rawsonville Plant in Ypsilanti helping transform his line and build the ventilators. On Sunday, April 26th, the first saleable ventilator came off the line. Bowman, who also currently serves as the national “Workers For Trump” coalition chair, will help build upwards of 50,000 of the lifesaving devices alongside his fellow workers. “President Trump has provided unprecedented aid to our state during this crisis and under his leadership, Michigan will play a key role in our nation's recovery. I want to thank MIGOP Co-Chair Terry Bowman for his tireless efforts working day in and day out to help his fellow Michiganders. I look forward to welcoming President Trump back to the ‘Great Lakes State’ this Thursday to celebrate the hardworking men and women like Terry who are helping rebuild our nation.” More >

MIGOP Statement on Whitmer Reopening Announcement

The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox regarding today’s announcement from Governor Whitmer on reopening parts of Michigan. “After months of dragging her feet, Governor Whitmer has finally decided to move forward with opening Michigan in the safe and strategic manner Speaker Chatfield and Majority Leader Shirkey proposed weeks ago. After feeling the pressure of 48 other states reopening, Governor Whitmer rightfully concluded that the people of our state are smart enough to be trusted and she regionally reopened Michigan. While many hardworking Michiganders and small business owners would have welcomed this development weeks ago, it’s better late than never.” More >

Whitmer Requests Federal Assistance After Massive State Borrowing

Last week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer implored the federal government to provide the state of Michigan with a bailout due to a projected $3 billion-dollar shortfall caused by her coronavirus shutdown. However, Governor Whitmer indicated she will continue to press forward with nearly $3.5 billion in borrowing for road projects, which never received legislative approval. The combined $6.5 billion of Whitmer debt has raised eyebrows around the state. “Michigan faces a huge $3 billion budget shortfall due to Governor Whitmer’s overly aggressive COVID response. Now is not the time for the state to be borrowing billions of dollars more.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman and former Appropriations Chair for the State House. “Governor Whitmer needs to work with Republicans in the state legislature to find a way out of this budget hole she dug and fix the roads without shackling billions of debt onto future Michiganders.” More >

Democrats Back Healthcare for Illegal Immigrants

In a previous coronavirus townhall, Michigan junior Senator Gary Peters admonished fellow members of Congress for pushing through unrelated priorities on the CARES Act and delaying the passage of the bill. Just months later, Peters fellow caucus members in the House, led by Speaker Pelosi, are now attempting to roll liberal legislative priorities into the next round of coronavirus aid. “While hardworking Americans are struggling, and businesses are closing –Democrats are more concerned about giving illegal immigrants healthcare and funding other liberal pet projects.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “Yet again, Gary Peters is nowhere to be found. It’s clear Gary Peters would rather toe the party line than stand up for the people of Michigan.” More >

Governor Whitmer Owes Michigan a Plan

The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox regarding Governor Whitmer’s failure to provide Michigan with a plan to reopen the economy and get Michiganders back to work as the coronavirus curve has flattened. “While 48 states across the country are reopening, Michigan still is completely without a comprehensive plan on reopening our state. Speaker Chatfield and Majority Leader Shirkey have tried many times to reopen the state with a regional, CISA-based approach – yet Governor Whitmer has rejected their partnership which Michigan’s recovery and success depends on. It’s time for the Governor to put forth a real plan and reopen Michigan so no more hardworking Michiganders have to suffer.” More >

Democrats Put Liberal Wishlist Ahead of the American People

Today, the U.S. House is set to vote on another round of “coronavirus” aid bills that have been stuffed with Nancy Pelosi’s liberal wish list. Rolled into the “aid”, are provisions that would increase funding for the US Postal Service, Planned Parenthood, vote by mail, and funds for cannabis companies. The 3 trillion-dollar package was created by the Democrat caucus without the bill going through a single congressional committee or negotiating with the GOP. President Trump and Senate Republicans have already announced opposition to the “HEROES Act” which the press has dubbed a “messaging bill”. Centrist Democrats in Pelosi’s own caucus have even begun to vote against the flawed legislation. On Wednesday, Governor Whitmer praised Speaker Pelosi for the bill despite members of both parties speaking out in opposition to the package. “This monstrosity is a complete waste of everyone’s time and was clearly not done in good faith to help the American people.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “This is nothing more than political ploy Democrats have created to try and hurt Republicans. Shame on any Democrat who signs their name to this.” More >

Biden and Peter’s Tara Reade Problem

Yesterday, in an interview with Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC, presumptive Democrat nominee Joe Biden admitted that the American people “probably shouldn’t vote for me” if voters believe Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegations against him. Biden then added he himself “wouldn’t vote for me” if he believed the allegations. That begs the question, “does Senator Gary Peters believe Tara Reade?” Peters, who faces John James this November, previously endorsed Biden last month but has denied multiple requests for comment on the issue. Reade, who came forward with sexual assault allegations against the former Vice President when she was a member of his Senate staff, has said that the presidential nominee should drop out of the race. “Michiganders have a right to know who Gary Peters believes; his political pal Joe Biden or Tara Reade?” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “The only thing worse than the Democrat’s effort to silence Tara Reade, is Gary Peter’s silence since these allegations became public over 50 days ago.” More >

Whitmer Ditches Michigan for Biden Campaign

The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox regarding Governor Whitmer’s roundtable with Joe Biden today. “While a third of Michigan’s workforce is unemployed and thousands are dying, Governor Whitmer came out in yet another VP audition saying now is the time to address climate change. Michigan deserves a real leader who is worried about our state, not liberal talking points.” More >

Whitmer Continues National Audition

Yesterday, Governor Whitmer joined ABC’s ‘The View’ and CNN’s ‘The Situation Room’ with Wolf Blitzer for yet another two national auditions to become Joe Biden’s running mate. While the Michigan Legislature was in session to work toward reopening Michigan, the governor made it clear that her sights were set on vice presidential politics. Whitmer maintained that her decisions on reopening the state were guided by “data” and “science” from medical professionals and epidemiologists. However, the governor has yet to put forward a detailed planned on how, which and when certain sectors of Michigan’s economy would reopen at all. “I don’t think anyone is surprised that yet again, Governor Whitmer is focused on trying to get the attention of Joe Biden, instead of rolling up her sleeves and getting to work with our legislature to reopen Michigan.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “The truth of the matter is that this is both a health and economic crisis, and that addressing BOTH truly cannot wait any longer.” More >

Biden Recruits El-Sayed To Assist with Socialized Agenda

This morning, it was announced that Abdul El-Sayed was recruited by Joe Biden to a Sanders-Biden unity taskforce, to develop policy recommendations for the presumptive presidential nominee and the DNC. El-Sayed is best known for his progressive, democrat-socialist policy positions on climate change, the economy, education, health care and immigration. Abdul El-Sayed, a 2018 gubernatorial candidate in the Democrat primary, has been an outspoken advocate for Medicare for All and will advise Biden on healthcare. In the past, El-Sayed has campaigned with Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Medicare for All. “If anyone needed any more proof of how radical Biden has become – he has now recruited avowed socialists to guide his campaign and policy decisions.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “From the Green New Deal that would decimate Michigan’s economy, or Medicare for All that would kick millions of Michiganders off their employer provided healthcare plans, Biden’s socialized policies are far too toxic for Michigan.” More >
