MIGOP Statement on Governor Whitmer's Endorsement of Jon Hoadley

LANSING, Mich., February 21, 2020 – The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox regarding Governor Gretchen Whitmer's endorsement of John Hoadley. "Governor Whitmer's endorsement of Jon Hoadley should come as no surprise, given that she owed him for introducing her disastrous 2020 budget which relied on her ridiculous 45-cent gas tax hike. Whether it's backing impeachment or increasing taxes on the hardworking people of the 6th congressional district, Tax Hike Hoadley is out of touch with the people of Southwest Michigan, and their priorities.” More >

Chaos Continues to Riddle Michigan Secretary of State

LANSING, Mich., February 12, 2020 – Last Friday, MIRS reported on conflicts erupting at local Michigan Secretary of State (SOS) branches, due to “customers getting upset when they couldn't complete their branch office business”. A FOIA of the SOS showed over 50 “critical incident” reports have been filed with the governor’s office over the last year. The most of any state agency in 2019. The incident reports went as far as customers yelling at each other and clerks, destroying offices, throwing food, threats of physical violence, and assaults on state employees. Despite Governor Whitmer’s Executive Directive offering a more open line of communication for state employees to report incidents to her office, MIRS reported that workers “didn't bother reporting incidents because they didn't think there would be any follow-up” from the Secretary of State. In Tuesday’s MIRS “Capitol Capsule”, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson even conceded that branch security is a “significant issue”. The eye-opening report comes on the heels of high senior staff turnover in Benson’s office. Benson’s Chief Deputy, Chief of Staff, Communications Director, Deputy Communications Director and Elections Chief have all departed within the last year. Michigan Republican Party Chairman, Laura Cox, said the incidents are especially troubling, considering Benson’s position as one of the state’s top executives. “The reports about the chaos happening at Secretary of State branches under Jocelyn Benson’s watch is incredibly troubling. How can Benson be trusted to ensure the integrity of Michigan’s elections, when she can’t ensure her own offices run smoothly?” Michigan Republican Party Chairman... More >

MIGOP Statement on New Hampshire Presidential Primary

LANSING, Mich., February 11, 2020 – The following is a statement from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding tonight’s results of the New Hampshire Democrat Primary: "Tonight’s New Hampshire result is further proof that the Democrat party is completely out of touch with the American people. Their toxic, top-down tax and spend policies would strap our country with crippling debt, and kill the American Dream as we know it. From fully funding the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, to passing massive tax relief which has saved Michiganders an average $1,400 per year, the hardworking people of our state know Trump is fighting for them in Washington. I look forward to spending the next nine months working tirelessly for our president and his America First agenda." More >

Hoadley Rubs Elbows with Radical Coastal Elites – Again.

Hoadley Headlines New York and San Francisco Left-Wing Fundraisers LANSING, Mich., February 10, 2020 – Following his endorsement from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee - who has supported radical candidates like Elizabeth Warren, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar - Jon Hoadley is set to headline yet another event with the same out-of-state coastal progressives at a San Francisco fundraiser. This comes just weeks after the State Representative jetted off to New York to join his ultra-wealthy special interest donors funding his campaign. Hoadley, who has also been endorsed by the Planned Parenthood PAC and Congressional Progressive Caucus, is now scheduled to accompany former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm for another private fundraiser in San Francisco, California. Michigan Republican Party Chairman said the fundraisers are no surprise, but especially troubling with the slate of endorsements Hoadley has received. “Instead of focusing on his constituents of the 60th District, or the hardworking people of Southwest Michigan, Jon Hoadley has decided to rub elbows with the progressive coastal elite.” said Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “It’s clear that Jon Hoadley feels more at home in California and New York and will pave over the people of Michigan’s 6th congressional district to support his donors’ radical progressive agenda.” Subsequent to his endorsement from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Hoadley has yet to make his intentions clear on whether he will support fellow progressive Elizabeth Warren or another candidate in the 2020 Democrat Presidential Primary. Peters Nullifies The Will of Millions of Michiganders

Freshman Senator Votes To Impeach Duly Elected President On Both Counts LANSING, Mich., February 5, 2020 – The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox after freshman Senator Gary Peters voted to convict President Trump: "Senator Peters voting to impeach President Trump should come as no surprise to anyone, considering he votes with Chuck Schumer 95% of the time. His choice is the most disappointing for the people of our state, because the career politician put partisanship ahead of the people he was elected to represent.” said Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, "I am deeply disgusted that Senator Peters violated the will of millions of Michigan voters who duly elected President Trump in 2016. This is truly the end of the line for Gary Peters." More >

MIGOP Statement on Governor Whitmer’s State of The Union Address Response

LANSING, Mich., February 4, 2020 – The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement from Chairman Laura Cox in response to Governor Whitmer’s Democrat rebuttal of President Trump’s State of The Union Address: “Tonight, Governor Whitmer’s State of the Union response was as empty as the potholes her broken promises have failed to fill. While President Trump’s leadership has led to historically low unemployment, tens of thousands of new jobs, and billions in new investment here in Michigan, Governor Whitmer has modeled herself after the do-nothing Democrats in Washington. While President Trump has delivered on his promise to make our nation great again, Governor Whitmer is becoming the proper poster child for a party that places partisan politics and progressive posturing above the best interests of our nation.” More >

MIGOP Statement on the State of The Union Address

LANSING, Mich., February 4, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox in response to President Trump’s State of the Union address: “The State of our Union is stronger than ever thanks to President Trump! From his wins on trade to record low unemployment, the Trump economy is booming and working for every American. Most importantly, after years of false promises and falling behind, the American people have a champion in the White House that puts America first and keeps his promises. Simply put, America is winning again.” “Our nation's potential is limitless when it’s citizens are given the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. President Trump fights tirelessly for those of us that were left behind, and he fights tirelessly for the hard-working citizens of the state of Michigan. The Michigan Republican Party looks forward to ensuring 4 more years of these historic results for our state, and nation.” More >

Bloomberg’s Out of Touch Agenda

Ahead of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s visit to Michigan today, please consider the following from the Michigan Republican Party on behalf of Chairman Laura Cox: Bloomberg’s Out of Touch Agenda: Backed a radical gun control group, with the objective of “promoting confiscation of guns” Made the city of New York a cautionary tale with its “nanny state” policies of banning large sodas. Claimed poor people paying more in taxes is a “good thing”. Proposed a vague economic plan that pushes for a $15-dollar minimum wage Michigan’s Economic Boom Under President Trump: 85,100 jobs have been added to the Great Lakes State since the president was elected. In 2018 the Michigan economy grew by 2.5%. One of the single best years we’ve seen in almost a decade Over 243,600 Michiganders have come off food stamps under the Trump Administration. Thanks to the historic Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the average tax cut in Michigan was $1,437. On top of that, 288 communities were designated as Opportunity Zones as an effect the tax cuts legislation. President Trump just recently signed the USMCA and negotiated a Phase One trade deal with China keeping even more promises he made on the campaign trail. “While Michael Bloomberg thinks he can buy the state of Michigan in this election, it does not negate the fact that his policies are purely out-of-touch with the people and priorities of our state.”, said Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “The hardworking people of Michigan will reject Bloomberg’s candidacy through and through, because they know they... More >

Did You Catch That? Schumer Pal Peters’ Impeachment Hypocrisy

Did You Catch That? Schumer Pal Peters’ Impeachment Hypocrisy In 1999, Peters Claimed Clinton’s Impeachment Trial Went on Too Long, but Backed Extending Trump’s Trial LANSING, Mich., February 4, 2020 – Last Friday, in a 49-51 vote, the U.S. Senate voted to reject additional impeachment witnesses. Among the senators who voted “yes,” was Gary Peters, who sided with the Democrat-led effort to extend the trial. Peters’ Friday vote stands in stark contrast to his opinion of President Clinton’s impeachment in 1999. During the 1999 trial, Peters stated that he was “pleased it’s all over with,” and that “It’s unfortunate how it dragged on for so long.” Last week the freshman senator backpedaled, siding with Democrats to subpoena additional witnesses and documents, extending the impeachment trial and wasting additional taxpayer dollars. Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox said the vote is especially troubling given the upcoming impeachment vote in the Senate. “Hypocrisy runs deep in the Democrat party, and Gary Peters has proven it with his willingness to nullify the votes of millions of Michiganders,” said Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “Instead of siding with the people of Michigan, the Senator claims to ‘represent’, he is choosing to put his party before country in carrying this impeachment torch for the caucus. I have no doubt in my mind that this impeachment trial will be the final straw for the people of our state, who will seek a new U.S. Senator this November.” Peters, who votes with minority leader Chuck Schumer 95% of...
