MIGOP Statement on conclusion of the Iowa Democrat Debate

LANSING, Mich., January 14, 2019 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding tonight’s Democrat Primary Debate: "With every debate, Michiganders get to see just how out of touch the Democrat party is with American values. From the Green New Deal which would decimate Michigan's economy, to Medicare For All that would strip voters of their employer-based healthcare, it's clear that the Democrats’ agenda is not in the best interests of the American people. President Trump has governed exactly as he campaigned - keeping his promises and putting America first. The president’s leadership has reinvigorated the economy and voters everywhere are thriving. With such historic results, the American people cannot afford to take a step back with these radical Democrat policies.” More >

In Case You Missed It, Michigan Senator Gary Peters had the worst week ever....again

In Case You Missed It, Michigan Senator Gary Peters had the worst week ever....again. From being outraised for the second quarter in a row, to slipping in polling, it looks like the career politician is still underwater with Michiganders. After last week, it looks like the least known member of the Senate is in for the fight of his political life this November. Peters Blocks U.S. attorney for Michigan's Western District Last Monday, is was reported by The Detroit News that Senator Peters had decided to block President Trump's choice for U.S. Attorney in Michigan's Western District. Peters declined to meet with the nominee, in a show of partisan politics. Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox weighed in on the matter, stating, "Tom Leonard is a highly qualified candidate for this position, and his nomination received bipartisan support. It is deeply troubling that western Michigan will have to go even longer without a federal prosecutor because of Peters’ partisan pandering. Michiganders deserve better in the U.S. Senate than a career politician who puts party first." And in a column by The Detroit News, Deputy Editorial Director, Ingrid Jacques, makes the following point: "If you need an example of how partisan things have become in our nation’s politics, look no further than what’s playing out in West Michigan. The region is lacking key federal law enforcement officials, thanks to the state’s two Democratic U.S. senators." Gary Peters Files for office…Again!

LANSING, Mich., January 3rd, 2020 – Today, career politician Gary Peters filed paperwork to run for reelection as Michigan’s junior senator. This is the 11th time Peters has sought political office in a career entering its 4th decade. “After 30 years of running for office, Gary Peters has proven to be nothing but a career politician whose only accomplishment seems to be his ability to successfully file for office.”, said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “During his time in the Senate Gary Peters has failed to stand up for the people of our state on critical issues such as the job killing Green New Deal which would crush Michigan’s manufacturing and agricultural industries. Michigan needs real leadership in the U.S. Senate. We need a leader who will fight for the people of Michigan and their values, not the values of donors and the progressive elite. John James is such a leader.” The following is a list of Gary Peters’ long and uninspiring political career: 1990: Received Democratic nomination for Michigan State Senate seat. 1991-1993: Served on the Rochester Hills City Council. 1994: Elected to serve in the Michigan State Senate. 1995-2002: Served in the Michigan Senate. 2002: Received Democratic nomination for attorney general of Michigan. 2003-2007: Served as commissioner of Michigan Lottery Bureau. 2008: Elected to represent the 9th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, with 52.08% of the vote. 2010: Re-elected to represent the 9th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, with 49.76% of the... MIGOP Chairman: "Slotkin is a Poster Child For Failed Foreign Policy Decisions."

LANSING, Mich., January 3, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox in response to Elissa Slotkin's opposition to President Trump’s decision to bring Iran’s most notorious terrorist to justice: "President Trump sent a clear message to Iran, and to terrorists around the world, that aggression against the United States, its citizens and our troops will not be tolerated. However, Elissa Slotkin continues to parrot the same worn-out policies she advocated for in the Obama Administration, which led to the decision to send Iran $1.7 billion in pallets of cash. Slotkin is a poster child for failed foreign policy decisions, and our nation is better off today than it was 4 years ago because of the president's swift and decisive leadership." More >

MIGOP Statement on Democrat Articles of Impeachment

LANSING, Mich., December 18, 2019 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding the U.S. House of Representatives passing two articles of impeachment on a purely partisan Democrat vote: “Today, the world found out just how desperate Democrats are to undo the will of the American people. This impeachment, based solely on partisan grounds, will forever redefine the relationship between the institutions of our government, and will greatly harm any remaining goodwill between our political parties. Make no mistake, our nation, its constitution and the American people will pay the price for this foolishness for years to come. It is a truly sad day for America.” More >

Detroit: Where the dead are registered to vote

MIGOP Calls for Winfrey’s removal from State Committee over poor local performance LANSING, Mich., December 12, 2019 – Yesterday, the Public Interest Legal Foundation filed a lawsuit in Federal court against the city of Detroit due to a litany of irregularities that are present in the city’s voter file. These irregularities include; Detroit having 2,503 dead people on its voter rolls, 4,788 voters that appear more than once, 511,786 registered voters in a city with only 479,267 adults eligible to vote, and 16,465 registered voters that are missing a registration date. Also, one Detroit voter has a birthdate listed as 1823, making that voter nearly 200 years old. Currently, the Detroit voter file is managed by Detroit Clerk Janice Winfrey, whose tenure has been highly controversial. After the 2016 election, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson conducted an audit of Detroit Precincts and found “significant discrepancies”. In 2017 in his campaign for Detroit City Clerk, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrest stated, “I don’t think it should have taken the state of Michigan to tell the city clerk to serve the voters better”. However, despite Winfery’s record of failure earlier this year, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson appointed Winfrey to the Election Modernization Advisory Committee which is tasked with implementing new Michigan voter laws. “When thousands of dead people are registered to vote and there are more people registered than are eligible to vote in the city of Detroit either someone is trying to commit fraud or there is gross incompetence within the Detroit city clerk’s... Our great Vice President knows just how important Michigan will be next year, and has demonstrated the Trump Administration’s commitment to this state from day one. The President and Vice President have governed like they campaigned – keeping promises and working tirelessly on behalf of Americans that felt left behind under Democrat leadership. We look forward to seeing the President and Vice President speak directly to Michiganders next week about the administration’s agenda, and the countless policies, initiatives, and reforms that have made Michigan a more prosperous place since they took office."
